Brazilian players have started using the self-restriction feature to cheat bookmakers.
According to SBCnews, the scheme works as follows: the player submits an application for self-restriction from gambling. Then, bookmakers or casinos have 72 hours to block the player. During this time, the user makes a deposit.
If they win, they can take the money. If the bet does not pay off, the person submits a request for a refund, explaining that they should not have been allowed on the platform at all due to their addiction.
The effectiveness of this scheme is currently unknown, as no company has confirmed that it has made payments to such players. However, given how regulated the gambling and betting market is in Brazil, it is likely that the state will force brands to make these payments.
